History

Scratch was developed by MIT media labs and first appeared in 2007. It was developed by Michael Resnick. The newest version, Scratch 1.4 was released on July 2, 2009 and was intended for younger programmers. As of late 2010 there was over 600,001 registered members and nearly 1,500,000 projects. 1 project is uploaded every minute. In 2008 the Scratch online community platform called ScratchR received an honorary mention in the Ars Electronica Prix.
